Our Pastors

Picture

Roy Sprunger, Senior Pastor

I felt a call into full-time Christian ministry through a series of divine events in the summer of 1982 which redirected the trajectory of my whole life. I changed my major to Religion at WPC (now WPU) in Portland, received my master's degree in Religious Education at the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, and was ordained as a minister in the Church of God in 1989.
After serving at two churches in Missouri and nearly 17 years at my previous church in Kansas, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to return to the PNW. Doors were opened for me to begin serving this gracious body of believers at RCCOG in March of 2016. Immediately I was surprised by the many people in my new church who I knew from my college days. The support staff of full-time and retired pastors made my transition from rural Kansas to green Oregon much smoother. During some especially difficult times personally (including the loss of both of my parents and my brother's stroke), my family and I discovered just how loving and supportive this body of Christ-followers were, endearing them to us in a way that only sharing hard times can.
I am an avid bicyclist and reader, and enjoy walking along Rainier's beautiful Columbia River. If you see me around town, I'll be the one saying hello and waving! My goal is to walk this life with the intention of connecting with all whom I meet. My wife and I have shared in life and ministry for 35 years and we have one amazing adult daughter.

Julie Ammons, Associate Pastor

I felt called to full-time Christian ministry when I was a senior in high school. I went to a Christian college and took classes to become a youth pastor. In 1980 I joined a revival ministry and served with them for four years. After getting married in 1984, we moved to Rainier in '88 where we raised three sons. During this time I became deeply involved in the women's and children's ministries at RCCOG.
My first main area of service at RCCOG was leading the VBS program! Then I became the Sunday School Superintendent which eventually led to becoming the Christian Education Director. In 2004 I was ordained as a minister in the Church of God and shortly after became a full-time Associate Pastor at RCCOG. It has been my honor to serve in a variety of roles over the past 30 years, and I look forward to serving God in new and dynamic ways in the future.
I've shared my life's journey with the people of RCCOG. We have grown together and walked alongside each other through wonderful as well as tragic times. I have ministered to and been ministered to by more people in this church than I can count. It's been my extreme pleasure to minister to parents, their children, and their children's children! They have blessed me with their friendship and have allowed me to share my life with them. My children grew up in this church and my grandchildren continue to grow up here. As I look back on my life, it would not be remotely the same without my RCCOG family.
